"YaQeeN" (Certitude) Program YAQEEN, an Arabic word that means Certitude, is the state of being certain; freedom of doubt and complete assurance; absolute confidence. Confidence is a foundational requirement to success; hence, we believe it ought to be the first characteristic to be developed and nurtured to become a staple of a person’s character. With effort, care and sapient supervision, other life skills (technical, practical, spiritual… etc.) can then blossom and become more employable if rooted in confidence. We at LMC believe that for many of our Muslim youth, confidence can be realized through clear understanding and acceptance of one’s values. That’s why, with the help and blessings of The Almighty, we’ve designed this program. Our program consists of a series of “Let’s Talk®” sessions where, as the name suggests, the participants get to join in a discussion with the instructor and other participants. YaQeeN has two main goals: First, to discuss and thoroughly explain what we believe to be the fundamentals of success - or as we call them - “The Pillars of Prosperity” (Knowledge, Order and Faith). What more is to show how these three fundamentals are strongly interconnected, and to explain the importance of this combination in achieving success and prosperity in one’s life. Second, examine Islam’s viewpoint on each of the three fundamentals. This is pivotal in helping our Muslim youth manage the struggles within their identity vis-à-vis Canadian/Western societal norms especially at a time when Islamic teachings and values are getting portrayed by some Muslims and/or non-Muslims as an impediment to civility and prosperity. At LMC, we strongly believe that the great values of Islam can serve as the catalyst that drives youth towards the ultimate success. Here we note that we see the method of presenting such information to be extremely critical in driving home the right message in the right light to a rather impatient youth audience. God permitting, “YaQeeN” will help our youth regain confidence in their Islamic identity and build self-esteem and other life skills through understanding. The program will strive to show youth how to be proud Muslims who incorporate Islam into their daily lives as opposed to concealing them or isolating themselves from their secular surroundings. The program will use contemporary terminology and methodology, such as PowerPoint presentations and visual aids, to simulate today’s preferred learning environments.
